How to Edit Pictures on Picasa
Though Picasa is not a full-blown graphic editing suite, it does provide basic editing features that you can use to touch up your images. The "Basic Fixes" tab lets you make simple fixes to your pictures, like removing the notorious red-eye to one-click photo cropping. The "Tuning" tab offers advanced features like to fix lighting and contrast. On the "Effects" tab, you can choose from 12 different effects to alter the coloring, sharpen the photo or apply filters. Picasa, created by Google, is a free download.

Double-click the picture. It will enlarge on the screen.

Click the "Basic Fixes" tab on the left pane. Choose any option that suits your needs. Some include "Crop," "Straighten," "Redeye," "Auto Contrast," "Auto Color" and "Retouch." Experiment with the available options. If a function requires additional input or editing, the program will prompt you accordingly. Otherwise, a function may automatically adjust your picture for you.

Click the "Tuning" tab to alter the light and shadow properties in the image. You will have to move the slider bars left or right to make the adjustment. Additionally, in this area, there is a color picker tool that lets you neutralize a particular color selected from the image.

Click the "Effects" to apply one of the 12 different photo effects. For example, you can add a black-and-white finish or sepia effect. A popular photo effect for highlighting a particular element in a picture is the "Focal B&W," which makes one small area colored and the rest of the photo is a traditional black and white. For the right image, it adds a spectacular effect.
