Putting music on your video iPod is a simple task.

Apple's iPod devices can play video, music, podcasts and more. If you want to have all of your music contained in one portable place, simply connect your video iPod to your computer and initiate the simple transfer process called syncing. You can put music -- whether your whole collection or some selected songs -- onto your video iPod in a short time. The iPod classic from 5th generation forward, the iPod nanos from the 3rd generation forward, and all generations of the iPod touch play video. All current models of the iPod other than the iPod shuffle are capable of playing video as of April 2011.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the supplied USB cable into the USB connection port on the iPod. Insert the remaining end of the USB cable in a USB connection port on the computer.

    • 2

Enter the name of your choice for your iPod when instructed. This is required only upon your first iPod and computer connection.

    • 3

Navigate to the empty box next to "Automatically Sync Songs to my iPod." Click once inside the box to insert a checkmark. When the checkmark appears, click "Done."

    • 4

Select your video iPod from the list of devices displayed on the computer screen.

    • 5

Select the "Music" tab at the screen top. Allow your iTunes song collection list a few moments to appear.

    • 6

Choose your syncing method: Options include "Entire Music Library" for every song you have downloaded from iTunes, and "Selected Playlists, Artists, Albums and Genres" to choose on a song-by-song basis. If you select the second option, you will be prompted to choose the specific music you want to import to your video iPod at this time.

    • 7

Wait for the "Syncing Music" message display on your computer screen -- it normally appears instantly. Do not touch the USB cord or disconnect your iPod during this process or it could disrupt the download.

    • 8

Click "Eject" on your computer screen when the "iPod Sync Is Complete. OK To Disconnect" message is displayed.

    • 9

Disconnect the video iPod from the computer. Your music is now synced to your video iPod.
