Mozilla Firefox allows you to use custom settings, install add-ons and add toolbars. If you have problems with any of these items, you can place Firefox in Safe Mode so that you can restore the program to its default settings. Although you can restore all user preferences, you can also remove all of the add-ons you installed or reset the position of the toolbar and its buttons.
Open Mozilla Firefox, then click the orange "Firefox" button in the top-left corner. Click "Help" followed by "Restart With Add-ons Disabled." Firefox will restart in its Safe Mode.
Select the box beside "Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults" on the dialog box that opens. Click the box beside any of the additional options shown on the Window to also reset those settings.
Click "Make Changes and Restart" to restore the default settings and to restart Firefox.
Tips & Warnings
- If you have Firefox 3.6, you have to use a different process to launch Firefox in Safe Mode. Close Mozilla Firefox if it's running. Click "Start" followed by "All Programs," then select "Mozilla Firefox" followed by "Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode)."
