1
Fasten the high chair seat belt around your child's waist at all times while using the high chair. Even if you are nearby, a toddler could easily stand up and fall from the chair, leading to injuries.
-
2
Provide him with some of his favorite small books or toys to play with if he's going to be in the seat for a long time. Some ideas of toys to supply him with are crayons and paper, board books and toy cars.

3
Talk to your child about the reasons she's in the chair and why she must stay there. Even toddlers who aren't speaking understand more than you'd think, so explaining things provides them with a better understanding of the situation and what's expected. Tell her how long you expect her to sit in her high chair and be consistent.

4
Eat each meal with him so he can see that the entire family is to sit while eating. Set a good example while showing him that meal times are for sitting and eating.
-
5
Attach the high chair's tray above her lap to hold her in place better. If the tray is adjustable, make sure that it is fastened as tightly as comfortably possible for her. This will help to prevent her from standing even if she gets her seat belt off.
-
6
Allow him to get out of his high chair, with your help, after 20 to 30 minutes or if he gets exceptionally fussy or upset. Praise him when he sits nicely through meals until they are finished.
