How to Get a Cached View of a Web Page

Google keeps a cache of your Web pages as a backup of previous versions of your pages. Google cache shows the last date Google crawled and stored your pages before the current version shows up in the search results. Google has a specific URL you use to view the cached versions of your Web pages. Using this tool helps you identify how Google is crawling your websites.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the Windows "Start" button and select your browser. You can see cached versions of Web pages in Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox or Chrome.

    • 2

Type "google.com" in the address text box and press "Enter." Type your URL in the search text box and press "Enter." In the search result pages, click the "Cached" link. This shows you the cached version of the page.

    • 3

Type "http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=" in the address text box. After the "q=" parameter, type the URL for the page. This also brings you to the cached page of the URL.

Tips & Warnings

  • The cached date is the last time Google crawled the page.

  • If you use Chrome, type "cache:URL" where URL is the URL you want to view and press "Enter." This is a shortcut to view a cached page using Chrome only.
