How to Make a New Gradient Fill in CS4

Adobe Photoshop is perhaps best known as a photo-editing application. The name has become so ubiquitous that to "photoshop" something means to alter its appearance. The various incarnations of Photoshop have also always been very useful for creating graphics. The CS4 version was no exception to this. For example, if you would like to create a gradient fill that you can use over again in many documents, you can easily save this new gradient fill to the fill presets.

Instructions

      Open Photoshop CS4. Select "File" from the menu and choose "New." In the dialog that appears, make the width and height whatever you want and click "OK."

      Select the "Gradient" tool from the toolbar on the left. Go to the gradient presets at the top and click the drop-down menu. Click the small drop-down menu within this one and choose "New Gradient."

      Select the new gradient you just created from the bottom of the presets so you can customize it. Click the preview of the gradient at the top. This opens the "Gradient Editor."

      Type in the name of your gradient in the "Name" box. Click one of the colored tabs at the bottom. Choose the color you want for that tab. Repeat this with the other tabs. You can adjust the tabs sliders to refine the result.

      Click "Save." In the dialog, click "Save" again. Click "OK" to close the Gradient Editor.
