How to Get a Better Picture on HDTV Without HD
High-definition televisions provide improved audio and picture quality over standard-definition equipment. The main downside is that HD programming and videos typically cost more than standard content. If you don't want to upgrade completely to high-definition equipment, it's possible to ensure that you receive the best picture and sound quality available. You just need to use the highest-quality video and audio cables.

Plug the digital-optical audio cable into the "Digital Audio Out" port on the standard-definition device you want connected to the television.

Attach the opposite end of the cable into the "Digital Audio In" port on your HDTV.

Connect the red, green and blue component video cables into the "Component Out" ports on the standard-definition, or SD, device.

Attach the free ends of the cables into the "Component In" ports on your HDTV.

Turn on the TV and the standard-definition equipment. Select "Component Video" as the input option.
