How to Polish an Airstream Propane Tank
Airstream trailers have propane tanks mounted on their exterior to use for fuel in the stove, heating system and refrigerator. These types of trailers are made of very durable aluminum that is extremely lightweight and shiny when they are clean. Many airstream owners prefer an aluminum propane tank to match the finish of the trailer. Cleaning and polishing your propane tank at the same time as the trailer provides an overall shiny product with protection from oxidation.

Things You'll Need
- Dish soap
- Bucket
- Garden hose
- Sponge
- Towel
- Plastic gloves
- Metal polish
- Shop cloth
- Microfiber cloth

Squirt dish soap into a bucket and add water from the garden hose to create a soapy mixture. Dip a sponge into the mixture and wash the propane tank from top to bottom to remove any road film and debris. Rinse the soap mixture off the propane tank with a garden hose. Dry the propane tank with a towel and allow it to thoroughly air dry.

Put on plastic gloves. Apply a quarter size amount of metal polish onto a shop cloth. Place the shop cloth on the propane tank and rub it on in a circular motion while using medium force. Work from top to bottom in sections to polish the entire tank, adding additional polish to the cloth when it becomes dry. Turn the cloth over to a clean area when it becomes black from the oxidation that the polish removes.

Remove any excess polish residue with a microfiber cloth. Work in the same pattern as when you were polishing in a circular motion and in sections.

Tips & Warnings
Repeat this process to polish your propane tank every four to six months to keep it shiny and clean.
Metal polish repels dirt and road film so that each time you polish your propane tank it cleans easier than without polish.
Wear gloves when polishing a propane tank to prevent black oxidation from staining your hands.
