How to Embed a WMV in Powerpoint

Save

Microsoft Office PowerPoint is the presentation component of the Office productivity suite. During presentations, facilitators may have various types of media, such as graphs, pictures and videos as a part of the program. If a video needs to be played, the presenter can play it in the presentation instead of going outside of PowerPoint to play it.

  • Click on the "Insert" tab.

  • Press the down arrow under the "Media Clips" panel.

  • Go to "Movie" and click on the down arrow beside it.

  • Select "Movie from File."

  • Navigate to the video location. In this case, use the sample video that comes with Microsoft. The videos are often located in the "Videos" folder in the "My Documents" or "Documents" folder.

  • Select the video then press "OK." The slide will turn black and the "Microsoft Office PowerPoint" dialog box will open and ask if the movie should start automatically or when the slide is clicked. Select the option of your choice.

Tips & Warnings

  • PowerPoint can also play other types of files such as .AVI (Audio Video Interleave) and .MPEG (Moving Pictures Expert Group).
  • The video file is not a part of the presentation but is merely linked to the presentation. Therefore, if the location of the video file changes, the movie will not play in the presentation.
