Computers lock when the screen lock is engaged. This simple security feature is designed to protect the work of the current user so that other people cannot view it. The lock is released by pressing "Ctrl" "Alt" and "Del" on the keyboard, then typing in the user name and password of the person currently logged into the machine. Any other log-in details will not allow access.
Log into the computer and click the "Start" button and select "Control Panel."
Click on the "Power Options" icon.
Look for "Require Password on Wakeup;" it should be on the left-hand side. Click it.
Select the "Don't Require a Password" option, then save this and close the Control Panel.
Notice that even though the sleep mode does happen, when you touch the keyboard there is no longer a password prompt.
