How to Put an Icing Tip on an Icing Bag

Save

Decorating bags are made of featherweight, parchment or plastic. Featherweight bags are coated with polyester, which makes them reusable. A parchment triangle can be folded into a disposable decorating bag. The plastic bags are also made to discard after one use. Regardless of what type of bag you use to decorate a cake, you will need to add a tip to add designs and details to a cake. A coupler and ring is needed to attach the bag to the tip. A coupler and ring can be found at many craft stores. Without these items, the tip cannot be secured to the bag.

Things You'll Need

  • Decorating bag
  • Coupler and ring
  • Pen
  • Scissors
  • Tip
  • Icing
  • Open the decorating bag.

  • Slide the coupler, pointed side down into the tip of the bag.

  • Mark on the bag where the ridge of the coupler falls. Remove the coupler.

  • Cut along the line. Place the coupler back into the bag pointed side down. Push the coupler down until it is secure in the bag.

  • Place the tip inside of the coupler ring. Then, screw the tip and ring onto the coupler. Make sure it is as tight as possible.

  • Fill the bag with icing and start decorating.
