How to Turn a Prius GPS System Off

by Dustin Thornton

The Toyota Prius has a built-in GPS system that you can access using the control panel and touchscreen console in the dash. The control panel also controls other functions of the vehicle, such as the CD player and radio. By default the navigation screen appears after 20 seconds of inactivity and continues to beep or provide audible directional assistance, even when not needed. You can change the navigation system options so that it no longer does this or turn the unit completely off using the buttons on the control panel and touchscreen.

Prevent System from Switching to GPS

Step 1

Press the "Setup" button on the right side of the control panel. The "Setup" screen will appear on the touchscreen.

Step 2

Press "General" on the touchscreen.

Step 3

Press "Auto Screen Change" until it is set to "Off." This prevents the control panel from automatically returning to the navigation screen when you change the screen.

Step 4

Press "Beep" until it is set to "Off." Press "Save." This prevents the navigation system from beeping.

Step 5

Enter back into the "Setup" screen and press "Voice" on the touchscreen. Press "Off" on the touchscreen and then press "Save." This prevents the navigation system from speaking to you.

Step 6

Press the "CD," "FM" or "AM" button on the left side of the control panel to enter into the associated audio mode. The until will not return to GPS mode unless you manually select it from the control panel.

Turn System Completely Off

Step 1

Press the "DISP" button on the right side of the control panel. A menu will appear on the touchscreen.

Step 2

Press "Screen Off" on the touchscreen to turn the unit off.

Step 3

Press "DISP" again to turn the unit back on.
