How to Recover the Code to a Sentry Safe


Since the 1930s, SentrySafe has provided customer with a wide variety of safe options including fire, personal, business and gun safes. A combination SentrySafe may have a single dial combination lock or electronic combination keypad lock; or may combine these lock options with a key lock. Whether you're dealing with a Sentry dial or electronic keypad safe, Sentry provides customers two ways to recover combinations. You can recover a code that you registered with Sentry on its site or you can fax in a request for recovery of a lost combination.

Sentry Registered Combinations

  • Go to the "Sentry Recover Your Combination" website (

  • Enter your username and password in the "Find a Registered Combination Online" section fields.

  • Click the "Recover Combination" button to retrieve your combination. If done correctly, "Your combination is:" in red and your combination should appear in the space above the username field.

Lost Combinations

  • Go to the "Sentry Recover Your Combination" site (

  • Click the "Download Notary Form" button. Click the "Open" button on the window that pops up to download the "Lost Combination or Security Key Notarized" form.

  • Print out the form and fill in the requested information including your name, address, phone number, safe model and serial numbers and a statement that you're the safe owner or the owner's legal representative -- for example, power of attorney or executor of a deceased individual's estate.

  • Check off the top of the form that you're requesting a "Combo" or "Combo & Keys" and enter a reference number if applicable -- if you spoke with SentrySafe beforehand and the representative presented you with one. Check off a payment method -- check, credit card or money order -- and the method that you want Sentry to use to send you the code -- mail, fax or email or that you'll pick it up.

  • Take the form to a notary to have it witnessed and then fax it (; fax: 585-381-2940), along with any other required documentation, if applicable -- copy of money order, proof of power of attorney or executor status or death certificate.

  • Wait 48 hours for SentrySafe to process your request and to mail, fax or email you your combination; or to call to advise you that the combination is ready for pickup, additional information is required or to take a credit card payment by phone.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you're requesting a lost combination and don't know your safe's model and serial numbers, check the front of the safe door near the bottom or under the dial or keypad, the right exterior side of the safe or next to the lower door hinge for a small label showing this information.
  • If you receive no response from SentrySafe within five business days of faxing your request, call SentrySafe (; 800-828-1438) to check the status of your request.
  • Never include credit card information on your "Lost Combination or Security Key" notarized form.
