Save

You have a website hosted on GoDaddy, but you have your domain registered elsewhere. Now you need a way to connect the two. This situation is a common occurrence. You must update your current domain's name server address. Think of domain address as a sign post to where your website is hosted. By changing the name server, the domain will now point in the right direction to your GoDaddy hosting.

Changing Your Name Servers

  • Find your GoDaddy name server. Visit the link in Resources and click the "Setting Name servers for a Domain Name Registered Elsewhere and Hosted Here" section. Find the two name servers that come under the dates you started your GoDaddy hosting service.

  • Visit the website where you have your domain hosted. Log in to your account.

  • Access the domain settings of the the domain address you want to point to your GoDaddy hosting. Change the name servers to those found in step 1. Save your settings.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some domain hosts do not allow users to manually change their domain name servers. Contact them requesting the change if you cannot find the settings.
  • Updates to name servers are not instant. Changes can take to up to 48 hours to go through the system.
