How to Cross Your Legs
Though it is a comfortable way to sit, especially for women, crossing your legs can actually be bad for your health. Crossing your legs above the knee can decrease the circulation in your lower leg and feet, which can lead to varicose veins. Your body can also be pulled out of alignment when sitting with your legs crossed, which can lead to imbalances in your back and hips. If you must sit with your legs crossed, it is best to do so the right way.

1
Sit in a chair with your abdominal muscles engaged, back straight and shoulders pressed down. Avoid slumping in your chair, especially for long periods of time, as it can negatively affect your posture and alignment.
-
2
Press your thighs and knees lightly together.

3
Cross your ankles rather than the upper part of your legs. If you are sitting in a chair for a long period of time it is best to periodically switch which ankle is in front.
