How to Clear a TI-83 Plus Calculator

Save

Students use the TI-83 Plus calculator to perform advanced mathematical function and equations, such as those used in Calculus. The user often changes the settings of the calculator to fit problems. Changing settings frequently can cause an issue if the user cannot figure out which changed setting is creating a problem or impeding the function of the calculator. When this happens, you should clear the memory of your TI-83 Plus. Clearing the memory returns the calculator to its default factory settings.

  • Press the "2nd" button. It is dark yellow and on the top-left corner of the keypad, below the screen.

  • Press the "+" button on the bottom-right corner of the keypad. It is directly above the button that says "ENTER." Because you pressed the "2nd" button, the "MEM" menu will open.

  • Press the down arrow key until you reach "RESET." The down arrow key is located on the top-right of the keypad and is light purple.

  • Hit the "ENTER" button.

  • Select whether you want to clear "ALL MEMORY" or "DEFAULT," using the arrow keys. "ALL MEMORY" will restore your calculator to new. "DEFAULT" restores the calculator's original settings, but saves games and applications.

  • Press "ENTER."

  • Press "ENTER" when the calculator confirms your intentions.

  • Wait for the calculator to verify that the memory cleared; it should take only a moment.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you would like to save some of your programs, archive them before clearing.
  • If you clear "ALL MEMORY," games and programs will be lost.
  • Make sure that the batteries in your calculator are fresh or your calculator may unintentionally clear everything.
