Running a search on the VIN can tell you if the vehicle had been in any accidents that you were unaware of and can inform you of other facts in its history that may be worth knowing. Visit the Carfax website.

Enter the VIN number of the vehicle in question into the box labeled "ENTER VIN (Optional)." Click the green "Get the Carfax!" button.

Enter your payment information into the address on screen. One Carfax report for a vehicle identification number history costs $34.99 (as of 2011). With your credit or debit card information entered into the boxes on screen along with your billing address, click "Buy Now." Your card will be charged and the vehicle's history report will be displayed on screen.
