Schools can use Internet Options to block students from accessing inappropriate websites.

By default, Microsoft Windows does not block user access to any websites. The operating system does, however, contain a utility that can restrict website access. Use the Content Advisor to specify which sites you do not want users on your computer to view. Access the Content Advisor settings from the Windows 7 Internet Options window.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "Windows" and "R" keyboard keys simultaneously to open a "Run" dialog box.

    • 2

Type "Inetcpl.cpl" into the text field and click the "OK" button. This opens the Internet Options component in a new window.

    • 3

Click the "Content" tab. Click "Enable" to turn on Content Advisor, then click the "Settings" button in the Content Advisor section. This opens a second window on your screen.

    • 4

Click the "Approved Sites" tab. This section contains settings Windows uses to regulate sites in Internet Explorer.

    • 5

Type the address of the website you want to block into the "Allow this Website" field, then click the "Never" button. This enters the website into the "List of Approved and Disapproved Websites" at the bottom of the window.

    • 6

Click "Apply," then the "OK" button.
