Make a Template
-
1
Draw the preliminary guides for your template. Use a pencil and a ruler to draw a straight line across the top of your cardstock page. Mark this Line A. Use your ruler to measure 1 3/8 of an inch below the top line, then draw another horizontal line. Mark this Line B. Measure 6 inches below the second line, and draw another line across the page, creating Line C. Last, measure another 1 3/8 inch below the third line, then draw your last horizontal line, or Line D.
Measure 3 inches from the left side of the page and draw a straight vertical line from top to bottom. Mark this Line 1. Then repeat this process at 4 1/4 inches from the left, then 6 inches, then 7 1/4 inches, marking the lines 2, 3 and 4, respectively. You will be able to fit two templates per standard 8 1/2-by-11-inch page.

Use a 10 1/2-inch dinner plate to draw the outer lines of the templates. Place the plate on top of the cardstock so that the left edge of the plate is lined up exactly at the points of intersection of Lines A, D and 1. Use your pencil to draw a line following the curve of the plate from the top point of intersection to the bottom one. Move the plate to the intersection points of Lines A, D and 3, and repeat this process.

3
Use an 8-inch saucer to draw the inner lines of the template. Line the saucer up with Lines B, C and 2. Draw a line connecting the two intersection points. Move the plate to the right and line up with the intersection points of Lines B, C and 3, and draw a line connecting those.
-
4
Use the ruler and draw lines connecting the endpoints of the curved lines.
-
5
Cut out the two curved shapes.
Create your Wrappers
-
6
Determine a theme for your event and choose your decorative paper accordingly.
-
7
Use a pencil to lightly trace around your wrapper template onto the decorative paper. Trace as many as you need plus a few extras to allow for mistakes.
-
8
Cut the wrappers out with regular scissors. If you are adding a decorative edge, cut roughly above the outer curve to allow enough room.
-
9
Decorate your wrappers. Use decorative-edged scissors to create an interesting border along the top, currently the outer edge, of the wrapper. Use stickers, drawings or imprints for an added effect.
-
10
Attach the ends of the cupcake wrapper. Measure 1/2 inch from one end of the wrapper, and cut a slit parallel to the end, starting from the outer-edge curve and ending halfway in. Then measure 1/2 inch from the other end of the wrapper, and cut a slit from the inner-edge curve, halfway in. Slide the slits together, making sure the loose ends face the inside of the wrapper to prevent it from becoming misshapen.
