How to Disinfect Sprouts
For sprouts to grow, the seeds or beans must be planted in a warm, humid climate. According to FoodSafety.gov, "these conditions are also ideal for the growth of bacteria, including Salmonella, Listria, and E. coli." To prevent these food illnesses, do not consume raw sprouts. Disinfecting the sprouts before consumption is a quick process that will save those eating the sprouts from some unpleasant side effects. Sprouts come from mung beans, alfalfa, radishes and clover.
