How to Enhance a Laptop's Wireless Signal
Your laptop's wireless signal may vary depending on several environmental and hardware factors. You can make adjustments to your wireless networking setup, wireless device location and laptop location to increase your wireless signal strength. However, some wireless signal problems can stem from your Internet connection and the density of Wi-Fi networks around your location, and these factors are somewhat harder to fix.

1
Take your laptop into the same room as the wireless router, or to a location with a clear line of sight to the laptop. Check the path to make sure that metal objects, wireless devices and other obstructions are not in the way.
-
2
Scroll through the list of available wireless networks on your laptop. If you have many available networks in one place, the other networks can cause signal interference with your home network. Change channels on your wireless router configuration to attempt to lessen the conflicts.

3
Use a new wireless networking card or dongle on your laptop, preferably one that supports Wireless-N networks. Your laptop's wireless card may not support the highest speeds available, or the hardware might have an issue that prevents it from reaching the highest speeds.
-
4
Minimize the amount of wireless devices in the area between your laptop and router. Microwaves can be a big problem with this, as can cell phones, baby monitors and cordless phones.
-
5
Check your wireless Internet speed at different times of day. If you are using a cable Internet connection, the top speed depends on the amount of people connecting in your local area. Try connecting during off-peak and prime time to determine if congestion is the issue.
