How to Use a Home Address for a Business
Home based businesses are on the rise. Many home business owners must decide whether or not they will use the actual physical address of their home for business. Businesses from home operating online websites benefit more when there is an actual physical address for potential customers to view. Deciding to use your home address for business depends on the logistics of the home address. For example home businesses that operate from an apartment don't particularly look good on a website or business cards. Issues of safety also come into play when thinking about using a home address for business. There are some reasonable options for using a home address as a business address.

1
Use the home address. If living in a house, the actual home address might be feasible if there are no issues of safety concern. A general home address looks professional enough and is accepted by the Internal Revenue Service under home businesses.

2
Use a suite number instead of an apartment number. If you live in an apartment you can still use the apartment address but give the illusion of a professional business office. Instead of abbreviating the word apartment and adding the number after it, put the word "suite" and then the actual apartment number. This can add a measure of protection while giving the front of an actual business office.

Purchase a virtual mailbox from a private mailbox service. Mail-handling services give an actual address with the number of your mailbox. Merchandise, correspondence and returned items can be sent to this mailbox and the postal service store will notify the business owner when they receive mail. Private mailboxes will also issue a suite number upon request.
