Rather than compressing individual files, you can compress a batch of files into one file, called an archive, with StuffIt. This saves bundles of room on your hard drive.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Launch StuffIt.

  2. Step 2

Select the files you want compressed into an archive as a batch. Usually, you do this by clicking on each file name while you hold down the Shift key. Then you add them to the file list in the window provided.

  3. Step 3

Select Save. StuffIt Deluxe or Compact Pro does the rest.

Tips & Warnings
  • Decompressing the archive - usually by double-clicking - returns the combined files to discrete files.
  • Compressed files cannot be used by an application until they are decompressed. However, you can set StuffIt to do this automatically.
