How to Use Herbal Resin Incense

Resin incense is different from the traditional and most popular stick incense. Herbal resin incense is shaped in tears, or powder dust. It is applied over a hot coal so that it can smolder and release its oils through the smoke. Resin incense releases a strong infused smell and gets much hotter than traditional incense sticks because of the smoldering technique. Resin incense is useful for aromatherapy or enjoying your incense.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your ceramic bowl, urn or metal plate on a flat surface and add sand to the base of it. This will allow the herbal resin incense to burn better. The sand helps absorb and maintain heat under the charcoal tablet.

    • 2

Hold the charcoal tablet in the air with your charcoal tongs and light it with a lighter preferably. You may use matches if that is all that is available. Keep the flame on the charcoal tablet for 20 seconds. At this point, the charcoal will ignite and you can place it into your ceramic bowl, urn or plate.

    • 3

Allow the charcoal tablet time to warm up, this can take as long as three minutes. You will know when it is starting to warm up when the edges of the charcoal tablet start to turn gray.

    • 4

Place a 1/4 teaspoon of herbal resin powder or drops into the ceramic bowl, urn or metal plate on top of the charcoal tablet. Do not put too much resin on the charcoal tablet. Wait five to ten minutes for the resin to start to smolder and release the oils within it.

    • 5

Put the incense out completely when done. Place the charcoal tablet in a sink to extinguish it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be careful not to touch the charcoal tablet, as the temperatures can rise as high as 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit. This will cause burns if touched. Keep out of the way of children or pets.

  • It is hard to light the charcoal tablet if it is already laying in the bowl, urn or plate so that is why it is important to light it in the air.
