How to Open an Internet Explorer Zip File

The ZIP file format is mainly used to compress files to save storage space as well as archive files into a single file. If you have applications such as PowerZIP, WinRAR and WinZIP installed on your computer, you can use them to open ZIP files downloaded using Internet Explorer. If you do not have any file archivers installed, you can use the Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders built-in file extraction tool to open a ZIP file.

Instructions

1. Click "Start" and then click "Computer" to bring up Windows Explorer.

2. Go to the location of the downloaded ZIP file. Unless you changed the directory when downloading the ZIP file, downloads are usually saved by default inside the Downloads folder on your Windows 7 user account.

3. Double-click the ZIP file. The contents inside the ZIP file are automatically opened in a Windows Explorer window.
