How to Refill a Gun Zippo Lighter

Refilling your Zippo lighter can make it last forever.

The gun lighter, which is made by Zippo, is impressive to friends and strangers because it looks like a real gun, but it shoots out flames. If you own one of these lighters, its design may lead you to believe that it is harder to refill than a typical Zippo lighter. Fortunately, because it has a universal refilling valve, you can use the same procedure for filling a regular Zippo lighter to refill your Zippo gun lighter.

Things You'll Need

• Zippo lighter
• Butane lighter fluid

Instructions

1. Allow the lighter to cool off. If you have used your lighter recently, wait until it is not hot to refill it. If the lighter is still hot, there is a small chance that the fuel could spark.

2. Open the top of the lighter. Pinch the flint wheel between your index finger and thumb and pull up to slide the inner case out of the outer case. If you are unsure how to identify it, the flint wheel is the area that the flames come out of.

3. Turn the inner case upside down so the felt pad is facing up. Pull the felt back and then saturate the cotton packing below it with lighter fluid. Zippo recommends that you only use Zippo-brand lighter fluid.

4. Put the inner case back inside of the outer case, ensuring that the small trigger on the top is facing the hinge on the bottom. Flip the top closed on the lighter.

5. Test the lighter to make sure the wick is able to soak up the fluid.
