How to Make Trick Braid Bracelets

Trick bracelets feature a braided design which appears to be an impossibility as both ends of the leather that make up the bracelet remain closed off. The trick bracelet is also known as a mystery bracelet, due to the mystery of trying to figure out how the bracelet was made into a braid with two closed ends. The trick of the bracelet is that more than just braiding is involved in the braiding process, with a carefully planned tuck added to keep the leather in a flat shape. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Cut two straight lines in the leather, dividing the leather into three even strips, but leaving a 1- to 2-inch section at each end uncut.

    • 2

Pass the right divided section over the middle section, making it the new middle section and the middle section the new right section.

    • 3

Pass the left divided section over the middle section, making it the new middle section and the middle section the new left section.

    • 4

Pass the right divided section over the middle section, making it the new middle section and the middle section the new right section.

    • 5

Grab the end of the leather that is the bottom relative to the braids and pass it between the current right section and current middle section then pull it back down to the bottom. The bottom will now look twisted.

    • 6

Pass the left divided section over the middle section, making it the new middle section and the middle section the new left section.

    • 7

Pass the right divided section over the middle section, making it the new middle section and the middle section the new right section.

    • 8

Pass the left divided section over the middle section, making it the new middle section and the middle section the new left section.

    • 9

Grab the end of the leather that is the bottom relative to the braids and pass it between the current left section and current middle section then pull it back down to the bottom. The bottom will now be untwisted again

    • 10

Slide the braided section down the length of the strips after each set of two tucks to maximize the number of sets you can complete.

    • 11

Add braids to the bracelet until you think you can no longer complete two tucks. Always finish after a completed set of three crosses, a tuck, three more crosses and another tuck otherwise the bracelet won't have the trick look.

    • 12

Adjust the braids so they are evenly spaced.

    • 13

Grab an uncut end in each end and hold the braided section tight against a table edge then move the braid back and forth.
