How to Make Chili Con Carne With Chocolate
Classic chili con carne, or chili with meat, gets an exotic and unexpected twist with the addition of dark chocolate. The smooth, rich chocolate blends with the smoky, spicy chili to create an explosion of sweet and savory flavors. A variety of other traditional chili ingredients, such as hearty beans and roasted chipotle peppers, round out the flavor profile. Things You'll Need
- 1 lb. ground beef
- Stock pot
- 1 peeled and minced garlic clove
- 1 chopped white onion
- 1 15-oz. drained can of kidney beans
- 2 undrained cans of diced tomatoes
- 2 cups vegetable broth
- 1 14.5-oz drained can of whole kernel corn
- 1 chopped green bell pepper
- 1 chopped chipotle pepper
- Salt, black pepper and chili powder to taste
- Wooden spoon
- 1/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Brown 1 lb. of ground beef over medium-high heat in a stock pot for five minutes. Drain the beef and add one peeled and minced garlic clove and one chopped onion. Cook the mixture for another five minutes.

Add one 15-oz. drained can of kidney beans, two 14.5-oz. undrained cans of diced tomatoes, two cups of vegetable broth, one 14.5-oz drained can of whole kernel corn, one chopped green bell pepper, one chopped chipotle pepper, and salt, black pepper and chili powder to taste to the pot. Stir the ingredients with a wooden spoon to blend.

Bring the chili to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat to low and simmer the chili, covered, for two hours. Stir the chili occasionally throughout the cooking process.

Pour 1/3 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips into the chili and stir until melted. Serve the chili immediately.
