How to Feed Duck Decoys

How to Feed Duck Decoys thumbnail
Duck decoys are used to attract real ducks for shooting.

Duck decoys are fake, but realistic-looking ducks which are used by hunters to attract real ducks. This enables a greater flock of ducks to circulate for the hunter to target. Decoy ducks are often covered in feathers for an authentic appearance, or attached to strings so that they can be moved in order to fool the real ducks. Feeding your duck decoys is another way you can tempt ducks for catching.

Instructions

    • 1

Position your duck decoy along the bank of a river, canal or lake. Make sure it has a surface of flat area in front of it, so that you can move the duck into the space at the opportune moment.

    • 2

Throw a handful of breadcrumbs into the water in front of the decoy. Time it so that there are real ducks flying above, or swimming around nearby.

    • 3

Wait for a couple of minutes, and then throw some more breadcrumbs to tempt the real ducks over. Then, pull the string attached to the decoy so that it moves across the ground into the water below.

    • 4

Walk along the bank of the water and keep pulling the string. This will appear like the duck is swimming. Pull the string to maneuver the decoy around the breadcrumbs, as if it is eating them.

    • 5

Let go of the string of the decoy when other ducks come over to investigate the food. This is the time to take advantage of the feasting ducks by catching them.
