How to Plant Forget Me Nots
The common forget-me-not (Myosotis spp.) is a blue wildflower, although white and pink-blooming cultivars exist. These old-fashioned plants, ideal for the woodland or cottage-themed gardens, thrive in partial shade and moist soil. Forget-me-nots require little care except for consistent watering and will grow in most areas of the country. Forget-me-nots are available in gardening centers and nurseries in the spring. 1
Choose a place to plant the forget-me-nots. The location should offer dappled or afternoon shade.
-
2
Amend the soil so that it drains well. If you have heavy soil, add a 3-inch layer of coarse sand. Most soils benefit from the addition of a 3-inch layer of compost. Mix it into the top 6 inches of garden soil.
-
-
3
Dig planting holes so that the forget-me-nots will sit at the same depth as they are in the nursery pots. Forget-me-nots don't mind being crowded, so plant them as close together as you like.
-
4
Remove the forget-me-nots from the nursery pots and place the rootballs in the holes. Fill the holes with soil.
-
5
Water the forget-me-nots until the top 6 inches of soil is moist and keep the soil just slightly moist at all times.
