How to Make a Sarong Wrap thumbnail
Enjoy the beach while also remaining modest when not in the water with a homemade sarong.

Body conscious or not, you may want a light and breezy cover up for a day at the beach or a few hours spent poolside. Make your own sarong that you can wrap and tie in a number of fashionable ways. With just a few items and a little bit of time you'll get the coverage you need outside the water without having to carry a lot of extra clothing in your beach bag.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash and dry the fabric. Use only laundry detergent when washing the fabric and don't use dryer sheets when drying it.

    • 2

Look for the cut edges (the ends that were cut at the fabric store) and the selvage edges (the ends with a thin strip of fabric that is more tightly woven than the rest of the fabric). The selvage edges serve as the finished top and bottom of the sarong.

    • 3

Fold each cut edge 1/4 inch toward the wrong side of the fabric twice. Sew the folded edges of the fabric with a 1/8-inch seam allowance to create hemmed edges.
