How Can I Obtain State Maps?
How you will go about obtaining a map of a particular state depends heavily on just how detailed you need that map to be. Maps are available both in stores in the form of atlases and online in the form of sites like Google Maps or Mapquest, and each offers different levels of detail in the maps you can obtain. Purchase an atlas of the state in question. Atlases are available in most bookstores and will feature not only a large map of the state but also individual maps of the streets and roads in smaller areas. Atlases can be helpful when kept in your car to navigate through areas in which you are unfamiliar, especially if you do not have a GPS on hand.

Use Google Maps. The Google Maps service can be used to get turn-by-turn directions from a destination to an endpoint anywhere in the country, but can also be used to obtain a map of an individual state. Load the map that you want in the main Google Maps utility by typing its name into the box on screen. You can keep the map on your computer or print it out for your own use.

Use Mapquest. Mapquest is a service that operates almost identically to that of Google Maps. Type the name of the state you're seeking into the box on screen. A map of that state will appear on your monitor. You can browse through the map and zoom in on certain sections from your computer or select the "Print" button to print the map.

Tips & Warnings
Visit tourism booths located near the borders of different states. Often, upon entering a new state by car, you can visit a tourism booth to obtain maps and pamphlets about that state.
