How to Change Your Ticket on Priceline

How to Change Your Ticket on Priceline thumbnail
Changes to tickets on Priceline are subject to airlines rules.

Priceline (priceline.com) is a travel service offering two ways to make flight reservations. You can make reservations by choosing your airline and flight times, or, if you are flexible with your travel schedule, you can use the "Name Your Own Price" service and save money on your ticket. "Name Your Own Price" reservations are restricted fares, and tickets cannot be changed or canceled. Tickets purchased with specific airlines and flight times are more flexible, and change fees are determined by the airlines.

Instructions

    • 1

Review the fare rules associated with your ticket. Go to Priceline.com and click on the "Check Your Request" link. You will need to enter your email address and your trip number. Your trip number was included in the email you received from Priceline confirming your purchase.

    • 2

Click on the "Ticket Changes and Cancellations" link in the "Important Information" section. If the fare rules for your ticket allow changes and cancellations, the airline will give specific fare rules and restrictions and the cost for changes.

    • 3

If changes are allowed, review alternative flights and fares offered by the airline on the Priceline.com website. If your itinerary includes more than one airline, search for flights on the airline whose name appears on your original credit card charge. Your new itinerary must include at least one flight on that airline.

    • 4

Calculate the fare difference between your old itinerary and your new one. If your new flight costs more than the original flight, you will be required to pay the difference. If your new flight costs less than the original, you will not receive a refund for the difference. Some airlines will apply the difference to the change fees or provide a voucher toward future travel. Contact the airline directly for more information on this option.

Call Priceline at 800-774-2354 at least one hour before departure or check-in and inform the representative that you want to change your ticket. Be prepared to provide your new preferred flight information, your reservation number, your email address and your billing information.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the cost of your original ticket is less than the fee the airline charges to make a change, it may be better to forfeit the tickets and purchase a new ticket on any airline for the dates and times you want.

  • To determine the cost to change your ticket, subtract the cost of your original fare from the cost of the new fare, then add the airline's change fee and Priceline's service fee.

  • Since airfares generally increase as the travel date approaches, make the change to your ticket as far in advance as possible.

  • Because of the constantly changing availability of flights, your preferred flights may no longer be available at the time you make the change to your ticket.

  • In addition to the fees the airline charges for changes, Priceline also charges a per-ticket service fee for changes.

  • Name changes are not allowed when changing a ticket, and tickets cannot be transferred to another person.
