The most informative family cookbooks are the ones that are routinely updated with new recipes, as time goes on. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Contact all of your immediate and extended family members, and let them know you are creating a family cookbook. Explain that this cookbook will be for family use and that their secret recipes will remain with the family. Have them read-off any unique or special recipes over the phone, or have them mailed to you.

    • 2

Gather and organize the recipes into categories. Examples include desserts, entrees and appetizers. For each entry, include who provided the recipe and any interesting anecdotes or family history relating to the dish.

    • 3

Create the book yourself, using a ring binder and word processor. You can also have the book professionally printed at a print shop. Add a glossary and a title page. Decorate the book using family themed drawings, such as a coat of arms.

    • 4

Explain the idea of the family cookbook to the younger members of the family, and explain they are expected to add to it and create copies for their children. Create enough copies of the cookbook for every household.
