How to Replace a Stolen ID in Dallas, Texas

If your ID card is stolen, you must report the theft to the Dallas police.

If you live in Dallas and your Texas identification card is stolen you are required to file a report with the Dallas police department. Before you can replace your ID card at a Texas Driver License Office, you must present a police report stating your ID card was stolen, otherwise you are not permitted to obtain a new card. Once you've filed a theft report with the Dallas Police Department, you can visit the nearest Dallas Driver License Office to replace your stolen ID card.

Instructions

1. Visit your local police department to report the stolen ID. Provide information for the theft report such as your name, address, contact information, the date your ID was stolen, the last place you saw your ID and any other information you have. Sign the report. Ask for a copy to provide the Driver License Office.

2. Visit any Dallas Driver License office to replace your ID card. You must provide photo identification and a copy of the police report you filed stating your ID card was stolen. Acceptable forms of identification include a valid passport, naturalization certificate, certificate of citizenship, Department of Homeland Security document, foreign passport or military ID card. If you cannot provide one form of photo identification, you must provide two forms of secondary identification. Acceptable secondary identification includes a Department of State certification of birth, birth certificate or a court order stating your legal name and date of birth. Otherwise, you may bring one form of secondary identification and two forms of supporting identification, which consists of school records, vehicle titles, voter registration card, military ID or your social security card.

3. Pay the fee to replace your ID card, which is $16 as of 2011. Acceptable methods of payment include cash, check and credit card. Your new ID card is issued while you wait.
