Instructions to Disassemble a Beretta Pistol

Beretta is one of the foremost weapons manufacturers in the world and its handguns are used by military and police agencies around the globe. Beretta's most recognizable model, the 92FS, is also the official sidearm of the U.S. military. All Beretta pistols are built on the same basic frame, making the field-strip process the same for each weapon. As with all firearms, it is important that you know how to disassemble your Beretta pistol in order to perform routine maintenance and repairs as needed.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the magazine from the pistol grip and pull the slide back. Visually inspect the chamber to ensure there are no live rounds left in the pistol. You should always clear your weapon of ammunition before attempting to perform any kind of maintenance.

    • 2

Push down the disassembly button on the right side of the pistol -- located in the center of the frame just below the slide -- and rotate the disassembly lever on the opposite side clockwise. This will unlock the pistol's slide.

    • 3

Push the slide all the way forward and off of the slide rails. Set the pistol frame aside once the slide is removed.

    • 4

Compress the recoil spring lightly and pull it up and backward out of the slide. Make sure you keep pressure on the spring as you remove it from the slide, otherwise it will shoot backwards and may cause damage or injury.

    • 5

Push the locking block -- the mechanism at the back of the barrel -- forward until you hear it click. This will loosen the barrel and allow you to push it forward slightly, then pull it up and out the back of the slide.
