How to Separate Bullets in PowerPoint

In many PowerPoint slides, the default text setup is in bullet format. Bullets are a way to "chunk" text so it is simpler to read, especially from the large screens PowerPoint presentations are often projected onto. If PowerPoint's default bullet spacing is too small or you just want more room between each bit of text, you can separate the bullets one of two ways.

Instructions

    • 1

Open PowerPoint. Click the "File" tab. Click "Open." Browse to the presentation with the bullet points to separate. Double-click the file name. When the slideshow opens, press the "Page Down" button on the keyboard to scroll to the slide with bullets to separate.

    • 2

Position the cursor to the right of the last letter, character or punctuation in one of the bullets. Press "Enter" to add space between that bullet and the one below it.

    • 3

Press the "Delete" key one time to remove the additional bullet PowerPoint added but to leave the bullets separated. Press "Enter" as many more times as required you are until satisfied with the bullet separation.

    • 4

Separate bullet points entirely by highlighting one bullet point--be sure to highlight all rows or lines that go with that bullet. PowerPoint does not allow the bullet itself to be highlighted, just the text.

    • 5

Right-click the highlight and select "Cut."

    • 6

Move lower on the slide to create the required amount of separation between the bullets and press "Ctrl-V" to paste in the cut bullet. If necessary, drag the bullet point into place on the slide.
