How to Write Someone an Invoice
Performing a job for someone means that you will need to get paid. When you are providing services or goods as a business entity, contractor or freelancer, you will most likely need to write an invoice for your services. Create an invoice that is clear, concise and detailed to make processing easier for your client or employer.

1
Write down all of the steps and tasks of the project as you perform them so that you will be able to create an accurate invoice. Also record the amount of time that each step or task took you to complete.
-
2
Record the invoice number at the top of the page. Write the invoice date below the invoice number.

3
Write your name, company name if applicable, and mailing address, email and phone number. Having all of your contact information in one place on the invoice makes it easier for your client should they have questions or need to reach you.
-
4
Itemize each task on the invoice; include a short description, the amount of time it took you to complete and if applicable, the amount of money. If you are getting paid per hour or per task, then you may want to include the exact charge for each specific task. However, if the entire project has a set fee then there is no need to price out each step.
-
5
Total the amount of money and place the final figure at the bottom of the invoice.
-
6
Place the due date or terms after the total amount. Most likely the terms for payment were clarified in your contract at the start of the project. Most people have terms like "Net 15 days" or "Net 30 days," which means that the client has 15 or 30 days to pay you, respectively.
