How to Delete an Optional Media Update

Windows 7 includes an automatic update tool that allows you to keep your operating system up to date at all times. The update tool downloads and installs critical updates pertaining to the Windows operating system and hardware installed on your machine. The update tool also alerts you to the availability of optional updates, which are not required for the proper functioning of your computer or hardware, but may provide features or repair bugs, depending on the update. If you install an optional update, you can delete it at any time from the "Programs and Features" portion of the Windows Control Panel.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the "Start" menu and then click "Control Panel."

    • 2

Click "Programs and Features" from within the Control Panel window.

    • 3

Click "View Installed Updates" on the left side of the Programs and Features window.

    • 4

Select the update that you would like to remove and then select "Uninstall."

    • 5

Enter your Windows password if prompted by the system to complete the removal of the update.
