You can request military records from the National Archives.

If you want to request a copy of your military resume or military records, you can do so through the services of the United States National Archives. If you are a military veteran or the next of kin of a veteran, requesting military records requires filling out a form called the DD 214. If you are not a veteran or the relative of a veteran, requesting military records will require filling out the SF-180 form.

      Obtain either the DD-214 or SF-180 form from the National Archives. You can do this by mailing your request to the National Archive's National Personnel Record at "National Personnel Records Center, Military Personnel Records, 9700 Page Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63132-5100." Or you can fax your request to the number 314-801-9195. You can also download a request form from the National Archives website listed in the reference section.

      Fill out the respective request form with information including the veteran's social security number, service number and dates of service.

      Mail or fax the request form to the National Archives using the methods of communication listed in Step 1. If there is no issue with your request you should receive your military records in a few weeks.
