How to Convert All 2007 Word Documents to 2010 Word Documents

When Microsoft released Office 2007, it introduced a new set of file formats, including upgrading its Word format from .doc to .docx. Office 2010 improved upon the .docx format, requiring that .docx files from Word 2007 be upgraded before using Word 2010 features. Both Word 2007 and Word 2010 include a "Convert" option for updating files to the latest version, including upgrading from 2007 to 2010.

  • Open Microsoft Word 2010.

  • Open your Word 2007 document. "Compatibility Mode" is displayed across the top of the application with older document formats such as Word 2003 and Word 2007.

  • Click the "File" menu.

  • Click "Info" and click the "Convert" button.

  • Click the "File" menu.

  • Click "Save as." Click "Save."
