How to Make Your Own Graduation Invitation Patterns
Graduation invitations can be expensive. You can make graduation invitations on your home computer using graphics and photograph editing software. Some graphics software include templates for the exact sizing and arrangement of your design. Templates are also available on the Internet at many print-on-demand art sites.

Open the graphics or photograph editing software on your computer. If your computer does not have such software already installed, you can download and install free software, such as Gimp, Paint.NET or ImageForge.

Create your own background design using the software "Paint" function. Open a "New" blank picture document in your graphics software. Select a "Brush" size, style or stamp pattern by clicking on the "Brush" icon in the drawing tool panel located on the left side of the screen or at the top row of tools.

Choose a color by clicking on the color palette usually located on the left side of the screen. Draw your design. Click on "Effects" or "Borders" (as provided by your software) and select a complimentary border. Save your design on your hard drive.

Import and place a photograph of the graduate on the template in the position you want it to appear by clicking on "Insert" and then selecting "Photo." Use the software "Text" function to select an appropriate font and type the date and time of the graduation ceremony and the name of the graduate on the card. Arrange the type, photos and backgrounds until you achieve your desired look.

Save your design to the computer when you have finished. Load your printer with blank card stock following the printer and the card stock manufacturer's instructions. Print the design on card stock.

Tips & Warnings
Save your template as a .PNG (portable network graphics) file for easy future editing. Save your design frequently during the creation process so that you do not lose your work in the event of a software problem
Print a draft copy of your design on plain paper before printing on the card stock, so that you can make any final adjustments to make sure the design prints properly on the more expensive card stock. If you do not have a printer, save your design to a portable device and take the design to a local printer.
Do not "right click" and copy or download copyrighted images or designs from the Internet.
