How to Paint Glass Votive Candle Holders

Votive candle holders contain a small candle and can be used to add subtle lighting to a room. Votive candle holders can be purchased at any home decorating store, but are often drab. One way to make the votive more decorative is to paint directly onto the glass using acrylic paint. This way, you can customize the votive holders to match the colors and style of your home.

Things You'll Need

• Newspaper
• Acrylic paint
• Glitter
• Paintbrush
• Clear glaze

Instructions

1. Lay sheets of newspaper over a table top. This will protect your furniture from accidental paint spills.

2. Paint designs on the outside surface of the glass candle holder. You can cover the entire outside with a solid color, or you can paint specific designs, such as swirls, pictures, zigzags or dots.

3. Cover the wet paint with glitter. This will make the painted areas sparkly. Allow the paint to dry for 30 minutes, then shake off the excess glitter.

4. Paint over the entire outside surface of the candle holder with clear glaze. The glaze will protect the paint from chipping and will make the surface shine.
