How to Justify an Evaluation
An evaluation may be necessary for a job promotion or if a ruling has been made against you that you do not agree with. Follow certain protocol and procedures in order to get the proper leadership in one place to review an evaluation request.

1
Use time and seniority as a basis for being evaluated. For example, if you're interested in a promotion and you worked on the job for more than six months, use length of employment as leverage for the evaluation request.
-
2
Mention any milestones, accomplishments and awards that can increase the chances for your evaluation. For example, if you're in a sales position and you exceeded certain expectations, use that accomplishment as a means of being evaluated. Any completions in training, education or certifications may also increase chances of justifying an evaluation.

3
Create a paper trail of any events -- past and current -- that would justify the evaluation. In situations where you need to speak with human resources or other authorities, having proof of various incidents will show you're serious, organized and responsible, and they'll be more likely to accept your request.
-
4
List any extenuating circumstances that may also require an evaluation. For example, any health issues with yourself or your family or scheduling constraints that may require the evaluation to be a priority. Prepare to issue any documentation to back up the extenuating circumstances.
-
5
Make a formal request for your evaluation with all documentation mentioned above, if applicable. A hard copy evaluation request is best, but email is also fine. Depending on your department or situation, meet the evaluator in person to request a formal evaluation.
