Installation Instructions for a Decora Telephone Jack
Installing a jack for the Decora telephone product line made by Leviton Manufacturing Company is the same as installing any other standard telephone jack. Color-coded wires coming from the telephone outlet box are wired to their matching terminals on the jack. Learning how to install a telephone jack will save you the cost of hiring a professional to do it.

1
Disconnect power from the telephone company by opening the network interface device and unplugging the short cable plugged into a jack inside of it. The network interface device is a plastic box typically colored gray and mounted by the telephone company on an outside wall of your home.
-
2
Pull the telephone cable slowly out of the telephone outlet box mounted on your wall. Use the diagonal pliers to nip away about two inches of the telephone cable's plastic covering at the tip of the cable to expose the inner wires. Strip off 1/2 inch of insulation from the tip of the red and green wires, using a wire stripper.

3
Loosen the red and green terminal screws on the Decora telephone jack. Wrap the red wire, and the green wire clockwise around their matching color-coded terminal screws, and tighten each terminal screw with a screwdriver.
-
4
Replace the faceplate of the Decora telephone jack. Push the wires gently into the telephone outlet box and mount the jack onto the outlet box with screws supplied with the jack. Plug the short cable inside the network interface device back to its jack to restore power from the telephone company. Plug a telephone into the newly mounted Decora telephone jack. Lift the telephone handset and listen for a dial tone.
