How to Update My Firefox Version

Mozilla regularly releases updates to its Firefox Web browser. These updates generally add new features to the program, correct bugs, improve performance and enhance the application's security methods. You can update Firefox using the browser's built-in tool to complete the task without having to manually download any files. Updating Firefox takes a few minutes and requires just a few clicks.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open Mozilla Firefox.

    • 2

Click the orange "Firefox" drop-down button in the top-left corner of the program window.

    • 3

Select "Help," then click "About Firefox." The About Mozilla Firefox window opens. The program begins downloading updates automatically if they are available. You can track the progress of the update download beneath "Firefox." The progress of the update download is displayed to the right of "Downloading updates." If no updates are available, the text "Firefox is up to date" will be displayed.

Click "Apply Update" to install the downloaded updates. If major changes have been made to Firefox and you need to update to an entirely new version of the software, the "Apply Update" option will not be available. In this case you must click the "Get the New Version" button instead.

Click "Restart Firefox" if prompted to do so. You will only need to select this option if you installed a new version of Firefox. The software automatically completes the restart process if you only install updates.
