How to Calculate the Weeks in a Year
As many full-time employees are paid by the week, it is very important to know the number of weeks left in any year. You'll have to take several factors into consideration, such as leap years and excess days in a week, but determining the number of weeks in a year is a relatively simple process. To use a reference, a regular calendar year has 52 weeks, plus one day, and a leap year has 52 weeks in a year, plus two days.

Determine if the year will be a leap year or a regular calendar year. Leap years add an extra day to the month of February, so there are a total of 366 days in a year, instead of the regular 365 days in a year. Leap years occur every four years. A previous leap year was 2008.

Divide the number of days in the year by seven, which represents the number of days in a week. The result will give you the number of weeks in a year, plus a decimal indicating any excess days in the year. These days are not large enough in quantity to make a full week.

Multiply the decimal by seven. This will display the number of any excess days in the final week of the year.
