Do some research and decide whether you want to buy a commercial skin whitener, such as one containing hydroquinone, tretinoin or azelaic acid, or make one at home with a few basic ingredients. If you have sensitive skin, you may want to opt for a homemade lightener to avoid potentially harsh chemicals.

Wash your face to ensure that skin is free of all makeup and dirt before beginning your skin whitening process. If you bought a commercial product, follow the directions on the product's label. If you want to make your own lightening product, gather the ingredients you'll need.

Tips & Warnings
Potatoes, like lime juice, are a natural bleaching agent, so you can substitute the juice for thinly sliced potatoes.
Consult with a dermatologist before attempting to lighten your skin.
Some commercial whiteners contain a bleaching agent called hydroquinone, which could have dangerous health consequences, including an increased risk of developing cancer.
If you develop a rash or skin irritation, immediately stop the skin lightening process and call your doctor.
