How to Make a Kite With Supplies
Flying a kite is fun activity on a windy day. Every child can build a kite with a little bit of guidance. Building a kite only takes a few supplies and couple of hours to do. Materials can be modified and there are plenty of substitute materials available should you not have access to the parts listed.

1
Cut two dowel rods into poles to use as the frame for the kite. The first rod should be longer than the second rod and will be the vertical support for the kite. Use a 2-to-3 scale to cut the dowels. For example, if the shorter rod is 20 inches, then the long dowel should be 30 inches.
-
2
Cut a notch in both ends of the dowel rods with the hobby knife. The notches should be cut into the flat ends of each dowel. These notches will be used to make a string frame for the plastic skin of the kite.

-
3
Tie the two dowels together with string. The dowels should be shaped like a plus sign. Wrap the string around where the dowels cross several times and tie the string in a knot. Use several drops of glue on the knot to make sure the string does not come loose. Allow the glue to set for 2 hours before using the kite.
-
4
Run the string through the notches on the ends of the dowels to create a frame. Tie a knot in string once the frame is complete.
-
5
Cut the plastic with the hobby knife to make the skin of the kite. Make sure that the plastic is about one inch bigger than the frame.
-
6
Place the frame onto the plastic. Place drops of glue onto the edges of the plastic skin, and fold the plastic over the string frame. The glue will secure the plastic to the frame.
-
7
Attach the string to the center of the kite, at point where the two dowels cross, and tie it in a standard knot. This string will be the one used to fly the kite.
