You can erase all of the data stored in the memory of a Walkman MP3 player without a computer.

The Sony S Series and E Series Walkman MP3 players were designed to store up to 50 hours of music and 10 hours of video. As with most electronic devices, the Sony Walkman MP3 players may not work as they should due to errors in the software. One of the troubleshooting steps you can take to return the Walkman to working order is to erase all of the memory and return the device to the factory settings.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the "Back/Home" button on the front of the S Series Walkman MP3 player until the home screen appears. The "Back/Home" button is located to the left of the up arrow button.

    • 2

Press the arrow buttons to highlight the "Settings" icon and press the ">||" button. The "Settings" icon is a picture of a toolbox and the ">||" button is located in the middle of the arrow buttons.

    • 3

Push the arrow buttons and the ">||" button to select "Common Settings," "Format," "Yes" and "Yes" a second time to reformat the Walkman S Series and erase the memory. For the Walkman E Series, select "Common Settings," "Reset/Format," "Format," "Yes" and "Yes."
